Retail Ireland reaction to Budget 2024

October 10, 2023

Retail Ireland, the Ibec group that represents the retail sector, today welcomed measures in Budget 2024 that will ease the burden on consumers and said the €250 million enterprise support package must target businesses affected by dramatic employment cost increases.

Retail Ireland Director Arnold Dillon said: “Tax cuts and other cost of living measures will put money back into the domestic economy. This should support consumer sentiment and retail spending as we approach the key Christmas trading period.

“The planned €250 million enterprise support package is badly needed. It is crucial that this money is targeted at those companies affected by government-imposed employment cost increases. The awaited government report on the cumulative cost of labour market reforms should be urgently completed so it can inform the approach.

“Crime and anti-social behaviour remain a massive challenge in town and city centres. Funding for extra Gardai and more overtime is welcome and should be used to ensure a highly visible presence on the streets.”
