Irish gin producers win big at Gin Masters Awards

July 08, 2022

Irish gin producers that are members of Drinks Ireland have taken home 13 awards at the Gin Masters Awards.

The Gin Masters is an annual judging of gin conducted by the Global Spirits Masters Competition, conducted in partnership with The Spirits Business. It consists of a series of blind-tasting evaluations that cover one of the fastest growing spirit categories in the world over the last 10 years.

The awards continue to grow with close to 500 submissions for the blind-tasting competition in 2022 with Drinks Ireland’s members taking home awards across 8 categories including Masters, Gold and Silver awards.

Rademon Estate Distillery won two Masters across Ultra-Premium and Contemporary, while Lough Ree won one for its Cask-Aged Gin.

Michael Clancy, Co-Founder, Lough Ree Distillery commented: “Following the challenges of Covid, we’re delighted to have been able to turn a negative into a positive, and now to have achieved this great recognition for Grand Crew Cask Aged Irish Gin. The extended maturation period has added layers of richness and complexity to this gin, with notes of blackberries, marmalade, dark chocolate and oak spice and a long silky finish. It’s great to be able to use the opportunity of naming this gin to pay tribute to our team who have worked so hard to overcome the never-ending challenges over the last few years.”

While David Boyd-Armstrong,Head Distiller and Founder Rademon Estate Distillery said “We believe we distil great spirits but we are once again delighted by this achievement and we are so happy that each Shortcross gin edition we create continue to win global awards.”

“We believe it is the fine alchemy of people, provenance and process that has created the abundance of quality gin products we have today which has been recognised with multiple award-winning gins from both established and newer distilleries. Our recently announced Irish Gin Strategy for 2022-2026 demonstrates that the sector will continue to grow from strength to strength” according to Vincent McGovern, Director of Spirits at Drinks Ireland
