Drinks Ireland|Spirits responds to USTR Airbus 180 day review

July 12, 2020

Drinks Ireland|Spirits responded, on behalf of our member companies to the first 180 day review and second overall review into the Section 301 investigation that has led to tariffs of 25% being applied to European products, including liqueurs and cordials (including Irish Cream and other Irish liqueurs) in the dispute between the US and EU and certain current or former Member States regarding subsidies to large civil aircraft.

This response, as with previous responses, asked that:

  • liqueurs and cordials from Ireland and Northern Ireland be removed from the list in Annex I
  • in the absence of this, the rate of additional duty on specific products not be increased, and
  • that Northern Irish gin should not, as suggested in Annex III of the USTR review document, be subjected to additional import duties.
