Awards highlight Technology Sector's role as a shining light during pandemic

September 02, 2021

Technology Ireland, the Ibec group that represents the technology sector, today launched the 29th Annual Technology Ireland Industry Awards. The Technology Ireland Industry Awards are designed to honour the best and brightest of Ireland’s technology companies. Ireland has fostered a thriving indigenous technology sector, while attracting many of the leading multinational technology companies to base their European headquarters here. Technology Ireland are once again delighted to partner with EY Ireland as Platinum Sponsor of these awards.

Commenting at the launch, Director of Technology Ireland, Una Fitzpatrick, stated:

“These awards recognise and celebrate those companies who have achieved exceptional success and developed innovative digital technologies, across 10 award categories. The ongoing pandemic made 2021 another difficult year. Yet, uniquely amongst EU countries, Ireland’s economy continued to grow. Much of this success was due to the resilience and innovation of our technology sector. We are delighted to celebrate that success through these awards and highlight the technology sector as the engine driving Ireland’s economic and social post pandemic recovery.

“To reflect the positive work being done by the Irish technology sector in the wider society, this year will see the introduction of a new award category, ‘Technology Ireland CSR Award’. This award recognises a technology company that is making an impact on communities, society, or the environment, through its CSR activity. The award acknowledges the practices and policies undertaken by technology companies that are intended to have a positive influence on the world.”

Platinum sponsor EY Ireland will sponsor the Digital Technology Company of the Year Award. Marie Treacy, Technology Sector Leader and Partner with EY Ireland, commented that:

“The past 18 months have been incredibly challenging across the business sphere. However, the pandemic has also presented an opportunity for fast-paced digital transformation. Now more than ever, technology is at the centre of each of our business and personal worlds – bringing innovation to the fore and enabling new ways of working. For this year’s awards, we look forward to seeing how the best of Ireland’s technology companies have demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and creativity, against a backdrop of continued uncertainty – seeing past the obstacles to seize the opportunities beyond. Recognising those who are demonstrating excellence is so important, and so we’re really excited to see the calibre of this year’s entries and to celebrate their accomplishments.”

Speaking at the launch, Lorna Martyn, Head of Technology at Fidelity Investments and Chair of Technology Ireland, said:

“We continue to experience exceptional growth and resilience across the technology sector in Ireland and unprecedented energy in the start-up ecosystem, despite the global challenges. Dublin has retained the third-place ranking in the latest Financial Times Tech Cities of the Future index. While that news is very welcome, continued investment to preserve and realise Ireland’s digital opportunity across all regions is essential.”

Technology Ireland, together with Award sponsors EY Ireland, Fidelity Investments, Workhuman, Enterprise Ireland, FIT, Technology Ireland DIGITAL Skillnet, and Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet, is urging all Irish software and digital technology companies to submit their own entries for the Awards by the 1 of October 2021.
