CSO statistics reveal impact of Covid lockdown on dwelling completions - PII
Property Industry Ireland (PII), the Ibec group for businesses working in the property sector, said today’s data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that dwelling completions in Quarter 1 of 2021 were severely impacted by the Covid-19 lockdown.
PII Director, Dr. David Duffy stated: "The latest completions data from the CSO show Q1 dwelling completions of 3,953, down by 20.1% on 2020. However, last year the sector responded strongly when reopened and by year end completions were close to what was achieved in 2019. We expect a similar response this year.
“The Affordable Housing Bill 2021 contains a range of positive measures that should help boost future supply. Resolving the issues in the housing market requires a range of solutions and a range of stakeholders. Much of the supply will be delivered by the private sector. The Irish housing market needs collaboration between the capacity and experience of both public and private sector to contribute to the solution.”
