Retail Ireland reacts to Level 4 measures

October 14, 2020

Responding to Government’s decision tonight to place the counties of Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan under Level 4 restrictions, Retail Ireland Director Arnold Dillon said: “The closure of significant parts of retail in Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan is very disappointing. We need to keep as much of the retail sector trading as possible.

"The move to broaden the definition of what constitutes essential retail is positive. We must manage the threat of Covid through targeted restrictions, while also sustaining economic activity and jobs. Covid is going to be with us for some time and customers need easy access to the products they require on a daily basis. The retail sector has radically transformed how it operates, with face masks, social distancing and other hygiene measure, to ensure a safe and highly controlled environment for customers and staff. Keeping retail open and trading over the coming months is crucial to our economic and social well-being.”
