Ibec welcomes Law Reform Commission report
Ibec, the group that represents Irish business, today welcomed the publication of the Law Reform Commission’s report on capping personal injury awards.
Dr Neil Walker, Ibec Head of Infrastructure said: “Our preference is for the insurance cost crisis facing hundreds of businesses to be addressed by the Judicial Council swiftly and voluntarily taking account of the recommendations of the Personal Injuries Commission.
“Ibec concurs with the LRC’s view that the Judicial Council should be afforded a reasonable period to complete its work on new guidance to replace the current Book of Quantum. Given that the Personal Injuries Guidelines Committee was established in late April, we would expect revised guidance to issue within the next few weeks. We very much hope that it will propose substantial reductions across a broad range of award categories in order to bring Irish levels into line with evidence-based international practice.”
