Welcome announcement of apprenticeship incentivisation scheme

August 12, 2020

Ibec, the group that represents Irish business, today welcomes the announcement by Minister Simon Harris to incentivise industry to participate in Generation Apprenticeship, something Ibec has long championed.

Ibec Director of Policy and Public Affairs, Fergal O’Brien said: “Apprenticeships bring strong alignment between training and employment schemes and the labour market, developing learners to build work-ready skills in their chosen occupation while growing talent for the organisation.

“Generation Apprenticeship offers strong potential as a labour market activation scheme to provide work-based education following the crisis. It provides an entry route to high quality employment, which will be important to address the challenges associated with youth unemployment. It brings educators and employers closer together to develop and roll-out targeted, demand-driven education and training programmes to enhance employee development.”

Ibec added its congratulations to the International Financial Services (IFS) Apprenticeships programme, developed by Ibec’s Financial Services Ireland trade association, the National College of Ireland and partner groups, who were named earlier today as winners of the consortia-led category in this year's Generation Apprenticeship competition.
