National Broadband Plan necessary to sustain vibrant business ecosystem

Ibec, the group that represents Irish business, has welcomed the decision by Government to approve the National Broadband Plan.

Ibec CEO Danny McCoy said: “Our regions cannot be expected to attract, develop and retain a vibrant business ecosystem of start-ups, indigenous SMEs and multinational enterprises in the continued absence of high-speed broadband. 
 
“While Ireland’s private sector has invested €2.75bn over the past 5 years in network infrastructure, we are dependent on the successful rollout of the National Broadband Plan to bring high-speed broadband to the 23% of homes and businesses in the State that are not commercially viable for the private sector to service directly.
 
“Following today’s decision from Government, Ibec now looks forward to the further progression of the project and rapid delivery of this much needed infrastructure.”
