Shining a spotlight on the technology companies of Ireland

September 02, 2019

Technology Ireland, the Ibec group that represents the technology sector, today launched the 27th Annual Technology Ireland Industry Awards.  The Technology Ireland Industry Awards are designed to honour the best and brightest of Ireland’s technology companies. Ireland has fostered a thriving indigenous technology sector while attracting many of the leading multinational technology companies to base their European headquarters here.

Speaking at the launch, Director of Technology Ireland, Una Fitzpatrick said: “The annual Technology Ireland Industry Awards, now in their 27th year, recognises and celebrates those companies who have achieved exceptional success and developed innovative digital technologies, across eight award categories. With the indigenous digital technology companies growing exports by 6% to €2.2bn in 2018, we expect this year’s awards to be hotly contested.”

2018 saw the introduction of a new award category, ‘’Women in Technology – Company Award’’ that recognises where a tech company had demonstrated a strong commitment to attracting, retaining and developing women across its workforce. This award led to the development of the ‘Business for Digital Tech Women’ initiative which was launched earlier this year.  Business for Digital Tech Women has the ambitious aim of accelerating national action on gender balance, across businesses which employ ICT workers.

Speaking at the launch, Jonathan Hyland, Chief Technology Officer at Workhuman and Chair of Technology Ireland, said: “A continued commitment by industry is needed to increase the participation of women in senior roles and leadership positions. Increasing the number of women in technology has the potential to broaden the talent pipeline, boost company performance and foster more inclusive workplaces”.
