Claire Solon Managing Director, Greystar

Claire is a Managing Director of Greystar Ireland, a global vertically integrated residential platform specialising in private rented residential accommodation.

Prior to joining Greystar in 2019, Claire was Head of Property at Aviva Ireland where she managed property funds of over €600m in Ireland and the UK.

Claire was previously Head of Estates Management at ESB Ireland and prior to that was Development Director in Bennett Construction.

Claire is an active Fellow of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) and was the youngest person to be elected to the role of President in 2016. She is currently Chair of the Practice and Policy Committee within SCSI and a Fellow of RICS. Previously she has lectured extensively in valuations and feasibility analysis in Technological University Dublin degree and master’s courses.

She serves as a non-executive Board member of state-owned Home Building Finance Ireland (HBFI) and also on the Board of Clúid, a not-for-profit housing charity.

He is one of the leaders of the Irish Cities 2070 Group which is working to envision the future form and sustainability of Irish cities with the many challenges which they face.

Jim Coady
Jim Coady Consultant to COADY Architects and Member of Irish Cities 2070 Group

Jim received his BArch (Hons) from University College Dublin in 1969 before taking a Masters in Urban Design in1972 in Manchester University. He returned to Ireland to work with Dublin City Council before joining Delany, McVeigh and Pike in 1973, and teaching for three years in the School of Architecture in UCD. He later worked in Brady Shipman Martin where he was partner until 1987. He then established COADY Architects where his primary interests were in education and health buildings, housing, master planning and urban design: he continues as a consultant to the firm and is a member of the Irish Cities 2070 Group.

Jim's talk will describe the work of the Irish Cities 2070 Group and the vision for Galway City in 2070, focussing on compact urban growth and densification of existing suburbs.

John Coleman
John Coleman CEO, Land Development Agency

John Coleman has been Chief Executive of the Land Development Agency since its inception in September 2018. John previously held senior roles at Ireland’s National Asset Management Agency (NAMA), worked extensively on the set up of its Residential Delivery division and was its Chief Financial Officer. John is a graduate of University College Dublin (BComm) and a chartered accountant (FCA). Prior to joining NAMA in 2011 he worked in banking and accountancy.

Niall Cussen 
Niall Cussen  Chief Executive and Planning Regulator, OPR

Niall is the Chief Executive and Planning Regulator at the Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR) established by Government in April 2019.
The OPR’s functions are to oversee the effective delivery of planning services of Irelands 31 local authorities and An Bord Pleanála, including implementation of national and regional policies and to conduct research and public awareness programmes in relation to planning.

Prior to his appointment Niall was Chief Planner at the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government from July 2014 and he worked in the Department from January 2000 prior to that.

Niall was responsible for leading the Department’s Forward Planning Section and its professional and multi-disciplinary planning team in the development of legislation and all Government policy relating to planning and related matters, including the National Planning Framework as part of Project Ireland 2040 alongside the National Development Plan.

Prior to joining the Department in 2000, Niall had an extensive planning career working for local authorities in Clare, Meath and Dublin City Council and An Bord Pleanála.

Niall holds qualifications in economics and geography, regional and urban planning and environmental engineering from Maynooth University, University College Dublin and Trinity College Dublin respectively and is both a member and a past President of the Irish Planning Institute.

Oscar Hureta Melchor
Oscar Hureta Melchor Policy Analyst on Urban Development and Governance, OECD

Oscar is a project manager on public governance and urban development at the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities (CFE). Oscar has led several urban policy reviews and thematic projects such as accessibility, the governance of land use, and innovation in cities, smart mobility. Recently, Oscar led the urban policy review of Colombia and the project on Urban-Rural Linkages in Poland. He authored the report on Enhancing Innovation Capacity in City Governments published by OECD and Bloomberg Philanthropies, and the OECD report on Leveraging Investment Transport Infrastructure. He currently works in a project on “The Governance of Smart City Data in Japan”. He holds a Masters and a PhD in comparative public policy from the University of York, United Kingdom. Oscar presentation will provide an international perspective on the impact of COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine on the housing sector across OECD countries.
