As businesses across Ireland continue to face talent and skills shortages, investment in education and training is critical to responding to immediate industry needs as well as planning for the future of work.

The surplus in the National Training Fund (NTF) stands at €855 million and this year is expected to increase by a further €150 million. By 2025, it is projected to rise to between €1.4 billion and €1.9 billion. The NTF surplus is an opportunity to create a step-change in engagement in upskilling and reskilling, while driving innovation in our universities and meaningful industry-academia collaboration.

This joint IUA-Ibec event will bring together senior university leaders (Presidents, VPs Academic, Chief Financial Offers, etc.) and enterprise leaders (CEOs, etc.) in roundtable discussions to identify common interests and priorities, and to make recommendations on how the NTF can be more effectively used to meet industry skills needs. This will look, for example, at leveraging the NTF to increase lifelong learning participation by investing in programmes for upskilling and reskilling, including MicroCreds, and exploring dynamic models for industry-academia collaboration.

This virtual event will be held on Microsoft Teams.
