**Course delivered fully online**
This unique programme delivered by Cork Institute of Technology and supported by Irish Medtech Skillnet, uses industry standard Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and is developed in collaboration with the South-West Regional Skills Forum.

The course explains how computerized systems are used in industry manufacturing processes and provides an approach to inspecting these systems.

Participants will be exposed to current state-of-the-art technologies, emerging developments and trends, using the latest machining/ inspection technologies to learn how advances in ICT can be exploited and implemented on the factory floor. 

This programme is structured around 3 key modules.

Content includes

3 x 5 credit modules delivered online

  1. Module 1- Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Programming & Manufacturing:
    machine tool technology & operations
  2. Module 2 - CAD/CAM Applications: model generation; generation of 2D, 2.5D &
    3D part programmes; offline simulation.
  3. Module 3 - Introduction to Metrology Systems (Semi & Fully Automated
    Systems): interpreting specifications and selecting appropriate
    measurement techniques.

Course details

Entry Requirements:

The programme will require a Higher Certificate or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or cognate discipline. Applicants not meeting this criterion may be assessed on a case-by-case basis for admission onto the programme. In making this assessment, the Department will consider factors such as whether the applicant holds an apprenticeship qualification in a cognate discipline, can demonstrate significant practical or hands on experience in the related technologies appropriate to the programme and the prior mathematical attainment of the applicant. The Department also notes that ongoing mathematical support is available to students through the Institute’s Academic Learning Support Centre.
