Can I apply for the internships if I am still in third level education?
If you are in the final year of your third level course you may apply for the internships advertised, but you cannot begin your internship until you have finished your course. In this situation you will not be able to recieve social welfare payments as you will not have been on the live register for three months. Therefore if you want to begin the internship directly after finishing your degree and it is an unpaid internship, you will not receice any social welfare payments. You must consider whether you can support yourself if you take this option. The only way you can receive social welfare payments is if you have been on the live register for three months. If you have any questions regarding retaining your social welfare benefits you must contact your local social welfare office.

Do I have to be in receipt of a welfare payment to participate?
No. If you are not in receipt of a welfare payment or on the live register you can still apply for the internships. However, in this case you would not be paid by the company and you would not be in receipt of a social welfare payment. You would therefore need to be able to support yourself during the internship. If during the internship you wanted to sign on to the live register and look for a welfare payment you would have to leave the placement.

The company you are interning with will need to send on the following information to the IBEC Gradlink team if you are selected for an internship: 1. Your name. 2. Your proposed start date with the company. 3. Your PPS number. 4. The title of your internship role e.g. Marketing assistant. 5. The proposed duration of the internship. 6. The year you finished your degree. 7. The univeristy / institute you did your degree in. 8. Whether or not you are in receipt of a social welfare payment. IBEC will then send out a confirmation letter to the company you are interning with and they will pass on a copy of this to you.
