Ibec, the group that represents Irish business, today expressed satisfaction with An Bord Plenala’s decision to grant permission for the proposed high voltage interconnector running from County Meath up to the border with County Tyrone.
Ibec head of Infrastructure, Dr Neil Walker, said “This investment is vitally important for security of supply on the island and hence future job creation. It will help to keep down electricity prices for all customers by allowing the most efficient generators to run. In doing so, it will also help Ireland to meet its renewable energy targets for 2020 and beyond.”
“We acknowledge the careful work carried out by An Bord Pleanala over many months in reaching this decision. We very much hope that approval will also be forthcoming for the proposed section within Northern Ireland, which is the subject of a separate planning application.”
