Ibec reaction to draft National Mitigation Plan
Ibec, the group that represents Irish business, today said the Government’s new draft statutory National Mitigation Plan is an important milestone in supporting the country’s transition to a low carbon, climate-resilient future. The group said it will now study the draft proposals and set out its view to Government and other stakeholders through the National Dialogue on Climate Change.
Conor Minogue, Ibec's Senior Executive for Energy Policy said " Meeting climate objectives in the context of a growing economy and a rising population, while also addressing concerns around energy security and competitiveness, will be a massive challenge. The path to a low carbon economy system is not straightforward and will require considerable effort across a range of sectors. The National Mitigation Plan, once finalised, will provide a much needed, long-term, whole-of-Government approach to the challenges ahead. It is crucial that all proposals considered are subject to robust economic analysis.
