What is disability?

The 2005 Disability Act defines disability as follows:

"A substantial restriction in the capability of the person to carry out a profession, business or occupation in the State, or to participate in social or cultural life in the State by reason of an enduring physical, sensory, mental health or intellectual impairment"

A disability may be present from birth or may be acquired during the course of one's life.
