Ibec has a team of experienced solicitors, operating in-house, who specialise in employment law, advising and representing member companies in complex employment and equality issues. In addition to producing member guidelines and delivering briefing sessions, we are there to support your dedicated advisor. We provide input when a query requires specialist advice on an employment law or equality issue, or if a member has a question on a piece of legislation. The following is an overview of additional services to members which can be accessed through your Ibec advisor:
Representation before a third party (Employment Appeals Tribunal, Equality Officer, Labour Court, Rights Commissioner) will generally be by your dedicated advisor. However, occasionally, there will be cases of a particular legal complexity, which will require the engagement of one of our solicitors. In these circumstances, the services of the Employment Law Unit will be at no additional cost to the member.
Legislation updates and best practice in employment law compliance
There are currently more than 27 separate pieces of employment legislation in place, not including statutory instruments and regulations, so it is little wonder that employers struggle to keep abreast of all of the new requirements, not to mention anticipating the true impact of the new provisions. Ibec's legal team ensure that you are informed on the possible effects on your business as well as best practice for compliance.
Ibec have had a specialised equality service in place for more than 20 years. The wealth of experience gained over this timeframe, as well as our monitoring of all equality-related developments, both at European level and in Ireland, has left us uniquely placed to advise and represent our members before the Equality Tribunal. The Equality Unit is now part of Employment Law Services, and through your dedicated advisor, as a member, you have access to the expertise gained over the years.
Apart from the advice and support provided to individual members by the solicitors in Employment Law Services, members can also have access to their knowledge and experience through some of Ibec’s publications, including “Termination of Employment: Practice and Procedures”, and HR Databank. Our solicitors also provide regular training inputs on the Ibec Diploma in Employment Law, and Discipline & Dismissals programmes.
