We do this by enforcing occupational health and safety law, promoting accident prevention, and providing information and advice across all sectors, including retail, healthcare, manufacturing, fishing, entertainment, mining, construction, agriculture and food services.
The lead National Competent Authority for a number of chemicals regulations including REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) Regulation and Seveso III. Our responsibility in this area is to protect human health (general public, consumers and workers) and the environment, to enhance competitiveness and innovation and ensure free movement of chemicals in the EU market.
A key agency involved in market surveillance and ensuring the safety of products used in workplaces and consumer applications. We have a remit to protect 4.5 million citizens from unsafe products and articles and to enable the international movement and trade of goods manufactured in Ireland.
European Chemicals Agency
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is the driving force among regulatory authorities in implementing the EU's chemicals legislation for the benefit of human health and the environment as well as for innovation and competitiveness. ECHA helps companies to comply with the legislation, advances the safe use of chemicals, provides information on chemicals and addresses chemicals of concern.
European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA)
EU-OSHA is the European Union information agency for occupational safety and health. Our work contributes to the European Commission’s Strategic Framework for Safety and Health at work 2014-2020 and other relevant EU strategies and programmes, such as Europe 2020.
National Irish Safety Organisation
NISO promote, through various activities, the positive role that companies can play when they adopt a proactive approach to health and safety. The All Ireland Safety Awards is an example of this. Organised in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Safety Group, the scheme recognises and recompenses excellence in health and safety practices.
