Description:DCENR recently closed the first phase of consultations for renewable energy supports; specifically a Renewable Heat Incentive and Renewable Electricity Supports. The submissions point our some of the key issues that should be taken into consideration in the design of such support schemes.
Implication(s):The renewable energy supports are designed to assist in meeting the binding renewable energy target for 2020, and also to close the gap on our binding GHG emissions reduction targets. Failure to comply with our renewable energy targets would result in infringement proceedings by the European Commission.
Current Position:DCENR is considering the responses to the first phase of the consultation. Ibec's Energy Policy Committee will continue to remain engaged in the process.
